How to Read a Bill

Understanding legislation can be challenging. Here are some tips:

  • Bill Number: HB = House Bill, SB = Senate Bill. The first two digits indicate the year.
  • Fiscal Note: Explains the estimated cost of implementing the bill.
  • Committee Assignment: Bills are assigned to committees for review before going to the full chamber.
  • Amendments: Bills are often amended during committee hearings and floor debate.

You can search and track all Colorado bills at the Colorado General Assembly website.
